Knittin' a New

Robin's Nest

This little robin was knit from the snow bird pattern.
The yarn I used was Mandarin Petit, for the back, tummy, and wings of the bird.

The wings are sewn on differently from the Snow Bird.
I sewed them down, at the sides of the bird, instead of flying this time.

Here is the pattern for the eggs and nest for your robin.
The nest and eggs were knit with Paton's Grace.
Eggs:
3mm needles
Using light blue Patons Grace Cotton, or something in the same weight, cast on 6 stitches.
Row 1: Purl row.
Row 2: Kf&b, k 1, Kf&b, k 1, Kf&b, k 1. [9sts]
Row 3: Purl row.
Rows 4 - 7: Work in Stockinette stitch
Row 8: [k2tog] 4 times, k 1. [5 sts]
Row 9: Purl row.
Break yarn and draw through last 5 stitches. Stuff with fiberfill and sew seam closed.

Nest:
3mm needles
Using a light brown, Patons Grace cotton, or something in the same weight, cast on 56 stitches.
Work 6 rows in Garter stitch.
Now work 4 rows in Stockinette stitch.
Work 10 more rows in Garter stitch.
Begin decreasing:
Row 1: [k 6, k2tog], repeat across row. [49 sts]
Row 2 and all even numbered rows: Knit row.
Row 3: [k 5, k2tog], repeat across row. [42 sts]
Row 5: [k 4, k2tog], repeat across row. [35 sts]
Row 7: [k 3, k2tog], repeat across row. [28 sts]
Row 9: [k 2, k2tog], repeat across row. [21 sts]
Row 11: [k 1, k2tog], repeat across row. [14 sts]
Row 13: [k2tog], across row. [7 sts]
Break yarn leaving a tail long enough to draw through last 5 stsitches and sew the seam.
